Why the motorcycle you already have is the best?

Warning! This post contains a great deal of frustration. If you are not into reading about frustrations, just skip it!

I think that everyone of you (bikers I mean) have sweet feelings about their ladies… errr motorcycles. I’m probably a very good example as I couldn’t let go my old CB750 Nighthawk even if I got the chance to buy a new Honda.

Anyway, that’s being said I’m sad to say that it seems most of the CBF600s “professional” reviewers say that is a very dull bike. Because it doesn’t do 300 km/h or it’s not very fast or maybe it’s not so good looking. And I somehow have the feeling that the reviewers are not exactly in the target audience for this bike (I suspect they all ride very extreme bikes).

Let me explain why. On Sunday I’ve got the chance to ride a Suzuki Hayabusa for about 200kms – helping a friend get it home in Bucharest. Excellent ride, truly an amazing machine. Around 200 hp… Eating up straight lines, but also good on the twisties.

I did however took it at work this morning (my CBF was waiting for me there since we left directly from the office by car on Friday). And this only ride to office made me realize why my CBF is really the bike I like and need.

First of all, traffic in Bucharest is almost a stand still. The only way to survive is to go by motorcycle and do a lot of split lanes (which by the way is not forbidden here).  In time, I have developed skills that are really annoying to car owners (passing between cars at the red light) – sometimes dangerous but it cuts my time in half. The other thing is that we have really bad roads around here. Now, my CBF helps me do that in a lightweight “street-fighter” way. Easy handling, excellent breaks and very forgiving. Try to do that in a 200 HP monster that barely changes direction with handlebars all the way to the end.

Now, due to the very slow traffic, an uprised position is the only way to actually control the bike. Try to do that in a super sport and you can’t see any of the instruments. The only way to see what speed you have, or anything else is if you “sleep” on the tank. That’s why I like the human position on my CBF.2007 Honda CBF600s

You can actually see the instruments.

So, dear CBF reviewers, just let someone on the CBF target to make the reviews. I don’t care if it’s not fast or not doing 260 MPH. Actually it would be extremely annoying if it would be that fast. It would be annoying to be a very futuristic look. Because then I wouldn’t be able to see the classic instruments I like so much. And if the engine would be more powerful than already is, it would make my ride to the office very unconfortable.

PS: Hayabusa is really a dream machine. If that’s what you are looking for.

I’m with you man. I’ve got no interest in riding extremely fast. Just give me a reliable motorcycle that gets me where I want to go comfortably and safe, that’s all I need. Yes, often the bike we already have is the one worth keeping!
