Really, the last big ride of the year

By | Oct 26, 2008

Two weeks ago, I have proclaimed the last big ride of the year. Well, I lied, because today I was out again. I took the country roads to the mountains because it was sunny in the morning. I’ve discovered about 3 important things with this ride.

  • If the starting point of the ride and supposedly the warmest place is around 6-7 Celsius, then going to the mountains is kind of un-cool. But definitively, “un-cool” is a bad choice of words if you know what I mean
  • 30 kms on the country roads to the nearest petrol station seems like a long way, if you already went on reserve for 30. (forgot to fill up..)
  • Around 0 Celsius (not sure if it was above or below at some point) you want to pee a lot. Only thing is that because of the temperature, “the peeing device” got smaller and smaller as I was advancing into the mountains.

Now, the interesting parts.

On the way to the mountains I went through the town of Targoviste, which used to be the capital city centuries ago. That’s why they have a king residency there.

I’ve got into the tower:

And that’s the view from above:

Now, just around the corner, they have a Police museum. The lady there told me that it’s the only one in Romania:

Happy to report that after 3 shots of Vodka at home, the “peeing device” got back to it’s normal size. The only thing that remains to be seen is what kind of cold I will catch.
