Trip to Valenii de munte – taking the curvier country roads – 337 KM

By | Nov 15, 2009

Is it me or these (ugly empty roads) can make me feel like being King of the road? Is there something more perfect in a biker life, no matter the rain, temperature or anything else than a road and a tank full of gas? Am I a moto junkie?

Yesterday morning I’ve checked as usual if it a bike riding day (I know, I know, you do the same) and seeing we had around 10 Celsius I decided is good enough for a ride. It’s called recharging the batterieS (the bike’s and my own).

Some map information (you will need to click on it to really see something)

Valenii de munte

I wasn’t sure where to go, or where I will get by the night fall, but it turned well, including the butt freezing temperatures in the mountains. But hey, with the freezing part you have an adventure, without, it just a ride.

So ok, first part was the most boring, going from Bucharest to Urziceni (point 1 on the map). Of course I forgot to fill in before leaving so most on the distance I went on the reserve. It troubles me, it’s a list forth time this year. Testing my luck I guess.

After Urziceni the road becomes more interesting (at least from the biking point of view) to Buzau, only to warm you up for the country roads ahead. At Buzau (point 2 on the map) I took the left road to Valea Siriului (I was almost sure I won’t make it all the way up to Brasov because it passes near the coldest point in the country all year round. But you know, as long as you have a road ahead and enough gas, you’re not lost and will get you somewhere.

It looked almost sunny, but it wasn’t :) I actually went in the mountains you can see ahead – nice forest and curvy roads. By this time I believe it got near 0 Celsius. It felt like my balls are freeze bounded to the metal of the tank. (later edit: checked now and they are both in good condition)

Then, at point 3 at the map, I decided to take a third grade road towards Valenii de Munte:
