This year Honda was completely missing from Smaeb, and KTM was also more or less missing. BMW had a huge display of bikes (all at un-reasonable prices) and Yamaha was quite ok as well and surprise, Harley was present as well. Still it felt more like an accessories show. This really makes me wonder, how do motorcycle dealers evaluate the importance of being displayed at an exhibition? If they don’t sell anything there, it means it’s money badly spent? I was under the impression that the affinity towards a brand is built in years, and you have to work towards it, even if there are no immediate rewards.

So this year I can’t dream about a new Honda because there weren’t any that I could see or test… Anyway, a few pictures. Babes come first:

A bit of stunt show was going outside:

I really liked the old bikes display:

The BMW stand -sorry no close-ups – I couldn’t get any near to the price tag ) :

The Versys looks quite ok:

2010 Yamaha Super TNR – I don’t know, it didn’t feel like much, compared with the older, sturdier Super TNR. Too much plastic and looks for Dakar if you ask me:

Vespas were cool. Too bad they are way to easy to steal:

Well, not much to see, but at least it signals riding time has arrived!

Web entrepreneur Judi Smedley is pleased to announce the publication of her brand-new website, www.OrangeCountyLeather.com. Making its debut just this month, the online business was developed to provide a premium selection of luxurious leatherwear in styles for men, women and children.

“I’ve been riding since before I was born, literally; my mother hopped on her Harley, headed to the hospital, parked in front of the entrance, went inside and announced she was having a baby. When it was time to leave the hospital, my dad was there on his Harley to pick us up and I rode nestled between them on the way home,” Smedley said.

At OrangeCountyLeather.com, shoppers are invited to browse an extensive collection of all-leather biker apparel that encompasses essentials like jackets and vests for men, ladies and children, as well as, coats, shirts, pants, skirts, shorts, boots, gloves, bandanas, skull caps, face masks, caps & hats, wallets & purses, fanny packs, saddle bags, tool bags and motorcycle accessories. An assortment of non-leather accessories such as T-shirts, denim apparel, helmets, goggles & sunglasses, knives and small motorcycle tool kits may also be purchased.

“Many people simply enjoy riding but don’t know where to journey or who to link up with. I found myself in this conundrum once upon a time when I started riding regularly as an adult; fortunately, I synched up with the Harley Owners Group, which organizes dozens of trips annually in national and statewide destinations,” Smedley explained.

Keep an eye out for new merchandise as Smedley will continue to update her website with new products. Just on the horizon, shoppers can look forward to jewelry, pins and patches intended to jazz up the biker look with accents to personalize leather motorcycle jackets and other apparel. And be sure to visit the site’s frequently-asked-questions page to read-up on the proper methods to clean and care for leather.

To learn more about the specific products available at OrangeCountyLeather.com, visit the website’s new blog, www.OCLeatherReview.com. This interactive platform will also be used to provide information about the Harley Owners Group and the statewide and national rides they organize.

“As an avid motorcyclist, I’m passionate about life and the thrill of the open road; therefore, I’m dedicated to providing the best quality to ensure customer satisfaction and safety,” Smedley said.

Mounting a sidecase rack on a Honda CBF600s 2007

Note: the pictures below showcase the mounting together with the topcase. If you only get the sidecase rack you should install these parts:

First step is to remove completely the original mounting pieces:

You should remove the rubber spacers,

And replace them with the metal spacers that come with the mounting kit

Attach the “ears”

These are the “ears”

Now, you will notice that the sidecase rack has some strange shape where the bolts should be.

That’s because you have these bolts – very easy to mount. You just have to twist them half turn and they are ready to go. Nice!

Here is how the sidecase rack should be mounted.

And now, on the back you should connect the left side with the right side for added strength.

Mounting a topcase rack on a Honda CBF600s 2007

I’ve got the Five Star mounting kit. They are a cheaper alternative to the Honda originals, and are of a decent quality. It takes around 15 minutes of easy work to have it done.

Some bits and pieces

The first step is to un-screw the handled at the back of the bike

Fit the spacers. (note – spacers are of a different size and you should check the installation manual to make sure you put them in the right order)

The Topcase rack is going to be mounted on these:

Un-screw this. The front end of the rack will get there.

Make sure you don’t lose these spacers. They should be placed between the body and the rack.

Here is how it looks

On the back of the rack you should attach the screws as well. Note: these screws are a bit long and they might get on the plastic and make a mess. I’ve added some more spacers of my own to make sure I don’t make any damage.

CBF 600s it’s really a streetfighter, but really you could also do some decent touring on the bike with the right accessories. So if you are ok with the small engine and the rock solid seat that will make your butt soar, you should go ahead and put a decent topcase and sidecases on the bike. You could go for the original Honda accessories but these will set you back around Eur 1000 or you could go for some aftermarket parts that will cost you around Eur 500.

I went for the aftermarket, and here is what I got:

- 3 cases from Moto Detail: 42 L. Acceptable quality, a bit large as a sidecase, but plenty of space. My cat inspected the case and we got approval

- Topcase mounting kit from Five Stars (Germany)

MIKE ELSWICK from www.news-journal.com has an interesting story about an East Texas jeweler Donald Reeves. I thought it was nice and quite similar with what drives us all.

First it seems that Mike is on his 13th Honda Goldwing (damn, I only got my forth Honda) and while driving back a Honda he purchased, Mike realized how useful the trailer the bike came with was: “I bought a used bike in Longview that came with a trailer,” he said. “I was driving it to my home in Marshall and couldn’t even tell the trailer was back there.”

After a while, he started making a trailer for his bike, which turned into a business in the end: “With an eye toward detail, including hand-laid fiberglass, custom paint jobs matching the owner’s motorcycle, specially designed molds for the fiberglass hull and accents that include chrome and LED lighting, his trailers catch people’s eye.”

You can read the original story here, it nice. And if you are looking for custom motorcycle trailers.

I don’t know about you, but here in Romania it seems that everybody has 2 cell phones (I can explain why in a not so rich country this happens), but anyway, one of the things I hate most is needing to stop to take a call, or even worse, seeing that you missed important call while on the road.

There is an easy solution to this, and it’s called MI95 – BlueAnt Bluetooth Interphone – from HelmetAudio.com.

Features (copy paste from the site):

* Provides hands-free operation with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone (up to 33′ away)
* Bike-to-bike communication up to 490′ (requires 2 units)
* Wireless rider-to-passenger communication
* Voice answer, voice dialing, and redial
* All weather, water resistant including heavy rain
* Large multi-function button for easy use with gloves on
* Full duplex for simultaneous talking
* Configurable with Bluetooth headset compatible GPS devices
* Mounts easily to full and open-faced helmets
* Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for noise cancellation and echo elimination.
* Volume automatically adjusts according to speed induced noise
* Excellent performance at speeds of up to 130 Km/h
* Up to 10 hours talk time and 700 hours standby
* Compliant with Bluetooth v1.2 devices
* Includes travel charger, 2 Velcro pads, adhesive and clamp mounts

A little expensive I would say. Hmm. What do you think?
