I still don’t know why the Honda CBF600 gets so many reviews as being ugly and bland. John Cantlie says:

I really wanted to hate the Honda. Anything that looks this bland has to be utterly boring to ride, and it’s true that the CBF isn’t exactly going to blow your socks off with a turbine-like rush of bhp. Compared to the handsome Yamaha and Kawasaki it really is spectacularly ugly; I liken it to a bath-tub on wheels. Compared to the others, the CBF is just old-fashioned. But in typical Honda style it goes, stops and handles better than all the other bikes here. It’s a rounded, considered motorcycle that’s been developed with the rider in mind and it completely belies its budget moniker; why they wrapped it in such a god-awful design is a mystery, because otherwise I’m certain this thing would sell bucketloads.

Read the review of the bikes side by side here.

Mounting a sidecase rack on a Honda CBF600s 2007

Note: the pictures below showcase the mounting together with the topcase. If you only get the sidecase rack you should install these parts:

First step is to remove completely the original mounting pieces:

You should remove the rubber spacers,

And replace them with the metal spacers that come with the mounting kit

Attach the “ears”

These are the “ears”

Now, you will notice that the sidecase rack has some strange shape where the bolts should be.

That’s because you have these bolts – very easy to mount. You just have to twist them half turn and they are ready to go. Nice!

Here is how the sidecase rack should be mounted.

And now, on the back you should connect the left side with the right side for added strength.

Mounting a topcase rack on a Honda CBF600s 2007

I’ve got the Five Star mounting kit. They are a cheaper alternative to the Honda originals, and are of a decent quality. It takes around 15 minutes of easy work to have it done.

Some bits and pieces

The first step is to un-screw the handled at the back of the bike

Fit the spacers. (note – spacers are of a different size and you should check the installation manual to make sure you put them in the right order)

The Topcase rack is going to be mounted on these:

Un-screw this. The front end of the rack will get there.

Make sure you don’t lose these spacers. They should be placed between the body and the rack.

Here is how it looks

On the back of the rack you should attach the screws as well. Note: these screws are a bit long and they might get on the plastic and make a mess. I’ve added some more spacers of my own to make sure I don’t make any damage.

CBF 600s it’s really a streetfighter, but really you could also do some decent touring on the bike with the right accessories. So if you are ok with the small engine and the rock solid seat that will make your butt soar, you should go ahead and put a decent topcase and sidecases on the bike. You could go for the original Honda accessories but these will set you back around Eur 1000 or you could go for some aftermarket parts that will cost you around Eur 500.

I went for the aftermarket, and here is what I got:

- 3 cases from Moto Detail: 42 L. Acceptable quality, a bit large as a sidecase, but plenty of space. My cat inspected the case and we got approval
